Why Join the Concise Daily Retreat?

The concise daily sadhana, Gyungyi Koljang from The Guru’s Heart Practice, Dispeller of All Obstacles (Lamé Tukdrup Barché Künsel), is an essentialized practice text that belongs to the main practice cycle of the New Treasures of Chokgyur Lingpa (Chokling Tersar) tradition. The chief figure in the practice is Guru Rinpoche, and it is often referred to as the “single-form practice of Guru Rinpoche”. Nonetheless, the sambhogakaya Avalokiteshvara and the dharmakaya Amitabha and the manifestations are also mentioned briefly in the text. It is said that the Sixteenth Karmapa practiced this daily. Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche commented that this is “a perfect practice. If you want just one practice and one single mantra, this is sufficient.”

Biography

Drupla Sonam Tsering is one of the senior monks at Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery and has completed the traditional three-year retreat three times.

At the age of thirteen, he received ordination from Chokling Rinpoche and Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche and began studying Buddhist scriptures, rituals, and meditation. Recognizing the profound wisdom of Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, he entered his first three-year retreat at the age of 22, dedicating himself to deep spiritual practice.

Afterward, he pursued Buddhist philosophical studies at the monastery’s college, followed by another three-year retreat, reaffirming his commitment to the path. His experience includes teaching translation courses at the Rangjung Yeshe Institute, performing Buddhist rituals, and guiding students in Dharma practice.

At the age of 40, he entered his third long retreat, further deepening his meditation and realization. Upon completion, Phakchok Rinpoche entrusted him with the responsibility of instructing and guiding practitioners in Buddhist centers worldwide. Drupla Sonam Tsering now shares his profound experience and knowledge with students seeking the authentic Vajrayana path.
